IRS, tax advocates, VITA sites, and Chamber Industry Leaders join forces to empower families and workers with vital Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) information

 

Mount Vernon, NY – On Friday, January 23, 2026, Mount Vernon businesses will host one of the region’s most significant tax education events as the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), top tax advocates, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites, and leading industry experts unite for EITC Day, a citywide event dedicated to raising awareness about the life-changing benefits of the Earned Income Tax Credit.

 

The program runs from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., offering families, residents, and businesses a chance to stop by, connect with experts, and access free resources designed to help them maximize their tax benefits this season. A speaking session featuring tax leaders and special guests will take place from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., addressing how eligible individuals can claim the EITC and gain access to trusted tax preparation support.

 

“EITC Day isn’t just about filing taxes—it’s about putting money back into the hands of hardworking families who help our communities thrive,” said Hon. Lisa Adele Copeland, President of the Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce.

 

EITC Day highlights the power of collaboration between government, business, and community advocates at a time when economic awareness is essential. Families attending can expect on-site guidance, information booths, and opportunities to learn about free tax preparation services through VITA programs. “We’re proud to unite local and national partners through the Chamber to ensure every qualifying resident gets the support they need," said Dr. Omar Fields.

 

The event will be hosted by the Industry Leaders of the Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce and supported by community stakeholders committed to financial literacy and economic empowerment.
